Constitution Marsh

The contrast between the strong lines of the man-made walkway and the natural lines of the surrounding valley have long made this one of my favorite shots of the region. The best part about this is that the photograph was taken with my point and shoot. Proof that photography is rarely about the equipment, and more frequently about being in the right place at the right time.

  • Beautiful shot of one of my all-time favorite Hudson River sites. Love the abstract element created by the straight lines. The careful centered boardwalk perspective is so inviting too—that “Railroad track” “V” effect is such a great device!!!

I have a number of shots that I took when we visited in the late afternoon and stayed through sunset. Amazing reflections of clouds in the still low tide water plus the amazing low angle misty yellow-over violet streaks of light that penetrate between the mountains on the left and hit the mountain on the right. This site sure does offer many perfect compositions with the natural taper of mountains toward the center that draws the eye in. Also the areas of grass and trees in clumps and irregular horizontal bands add all kinds of detail and interesting possibilities. When I first visited we remained for hours and found the tranquility and beauty overwhelming. Am visting this weekend to take more pics in preparation for a large painting I am planning based on the marsh view on the boardwalk. Cannot wait to see it again!!! Keep up with your beautiful eye for composition…(I agree about point and shoot quality because of all the photgraphic technological advances made even basic cameras are now capable of first-rate images. Keep up the good work…All the best..
